The interactive map below shows the spatial distribution of surface soil moisture (SSM) seasonal cycle regimes as determined in Stahl and McColl (2022). The figure above the map shows the SSM seasonal cycle by regime, with the seasonal cycle for each individual pixel shown as gray lines and the representative LOESS smoothed seasonal cycle shown as colored lines. The upper row of month values on the horizontal axis applies to the Northern Hemisphere and the lower row applies to the Southern Hemisphere (data in the Southern Hemisphere were phase-shifted by 6 months).
